China: Happy new year

Happy Chinese New Year!

It’s the year of the pig - the last of the 12 animals in the Chinese zodiac - that symbolizes good luck, but as well turbulence. And it is also the year of the Golden Pig, which falls once every 60 years.

Many women in China were still the one child per family rule is in place, are now trying to give birth to their child and managers in companies around the country are already complaining about staff shortages as so many seemingly have chosen this year for their pregnancy.

Chinese fortune tellers are saying that while it will be a lucky year to get born, for the rest of us it might be a rather rough ride. They are predicting epidemics, disasters and violence in much of the world.
