Just wait a little while and then tell it to some other people - Works with jokes and seemingly still on Digg.com.
This time it’s the good old prank to change the display message on HP (and other printers) with a little program. But script kiddies wake up - no perl needed to do this as mentioned in the latest version of this joke. There is since long a small .Net application around that does the job even with a configuration window for your message.
The joke dates back to 1997 and various versions of it exists. More info at:
- Irongeek’s description from a few years ago
- A c-sharp app that does the same job
- Another application with config windows
And of course it had been “digged” a few times before. See here (more than 2 years ago) and here (about 1.5 years ago).
Nevertheless it’s still funny to see which messages people use for that. Some of the best below:
- BBQ SAUCE LOW
- ENTER PASSWORD
- WAITING FOR COMMAND FROM SKYNET
- SKYNET ONLINE
- Dry - Add Water
- FEED ME A KITTEN
- TAKE ME TO YOUR LEADER
- I CAN SEE YOU
- WHAT IS THE ANSWER? (42)
- FOLLOW THE WHITE RABBIT
- PRINTING 1 OF 7496 PAGES
- OUT OF VOWELS
- PLEASE CHANGE WHITE TONER
- …
- BORED
