While for many Hypochondriacs the Merck Manual of Medical Information might be a bit like a bible for daily / nightly reference, there are other books that help to fulfill the information needs (attention: could already be part of a disease pattern) of Hypochondriacs.
Some take an unusual and in-depth look in scary, unusual and horrible diseases in a slightly humorous way like The Hypochondriac’s Pocket Guide to Horrible Diseases You Probably Already Have and others provide general information on diseases.
In difference to these books The Manual of things that might kill you is written specifically to address the needs of Hypochondriacs for self-diagnosis. It introduces over 300 deadly diseases with profiles organized around symptoms.
From the book’s web site:
“Hypochondriacs have long had to satisfy their needs for self-diagnosis with medical reference materials written for the masses, but this revolutionary book is dedicated entirely to the hypochondriac’s unique perspective on health. The world’s worst maladies, conveniently organized by symptom (real or imagined), will ignite even the mildest hypochondriac’s fantasy life. We’re all going to die of something—why not choose an ailment that’s rare and hard to pronounce?”
